Our two-country, seven-location, 17-day African trip went off without a hitch, and the animals were closer and more numerous than we could have imagined. In our first five minutes on safari we came upon a herd of 40 elephants, followed by giraffes, zebras, hippos, ostrich, cape buffalo, etc., and at the end of day we came upon a pair of yawning lions, who let us park beside them and just watch.
